Colonist: Patriots or Terrorist?

A terrorist is a person, usually a member of a group, who uses or advocates the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes. While a patriot is a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion. Due to different perspective, many people have different opinions on where the Colonist is Patriots or Terrorist. In a British person's perspective, these colonists might be terrorists, but if you were to ask an American, he or she would say the opposite. In my opinion, I think these colonists are Terrorist. The reason I say this is because the colonist, such as the son of liberty, were beating up tax collectors, which is an act of violence. The reason they were doing this is also because of political purposes, to make the colonies independent on their mother country, England. While some people might disagree with me that these were only acts to defend themselves and that they are truly patriots. If the colonist were really patriots, why are they not only defending, but also attacking the other side (The Boston Tea Party). In conclusion, I believe that what the Americans call patriots are actually terrorists.

  1. Hi Tiger, your post breaks down the arguments bit-by-bit. This is an effective technique for persuasion, and presents your position clearly. I'd love to know what connections you can make on this issues between historical events and current events.
I'll check back in a few days to see what you have come up with.
